While taxes are not paid in this office, we receive calls about this almost everyday. ANSWER: Taxes cannot be paid early. Tax Notices regarding your property should be received the by the first week of October each year. Any paperwork regarding the payment of taxes due at closing is typically an estimation especially if the closing is prior to October 1st of that tax year. We encourage you to contact your closing attorney regarding tax payment responsibilities. Please contact the Madison County Trustees office at (731)-423-6027 and/or the City of Jackson Revenue Office at (731)-425-8210 for information regarding property taxes. Your request will be investigated as soon as possible by the Code Enforcement Director and prioritized by seriousness of the complaint. Life / Safety issues take priority over nuisance complaints. All complaints are investigated to see if a State or County Resolution has been violated.
If purchased from an individual, we will only need the former owner's title properly signed over to the new owner. If the owner is coming into Tennessee from another state, we will need the title from their home state.
Should the vehicle not be paid for, we will need the current registration and the name and address of the bank or credit union that is holding their title. Sales tax will be collected by this office on those vehicles that have not been paid for.
Unfortunately the Highway Department does not provide this service.
